Refresh past knowledge of text.
Monitor self-comprehension and stop to answer questions to show my understanding.
Understand what mood is and how it is established in a drama.
Procedure:
Copy HW into agenda
What is/are today’s objective(s)?
Verbally Review with the class: Why is Marley a ghost? What is his message to Scrooge? Who is expected to visit Scrooge? When? Describe the current setting (Time/place) at this point in the play.
Continue/Finish reading Act I (begin with end of Scene 3)
Discuss “mood”—What established mood? (tone, setting, facial expressions, sounds)
Stop to discuss meaning/use of “old” words such as “about” used to mean “around”; etc. while reading together.
Add to Act I study guide answers.
HW:
Word Wisdom pgs 68-69 due tomorrow; pgs 70-71 due Thursday;
Prepare for W.W. Unit 3 30-word test this Friday.
Act I Study Guide will be due this Friday; Act I test scheduled for next Monday.
Student will work independently at their seats to analyze the text in the book and create a visual design for a scene of their choice FROM ACT I of “A Christmas Carol”
They should add color to final design.
They may chat quietly if they’re working productively (and on-topic!) but should not be out of their seats (unless they’re borrowing art supplies) and should not create the exact same scene design as anyone else!
Students who finish early may work independently on finishing their Act I study guide due Friday and/or their 30-word Word Wisdom study guide (available on the front table) for Friday’s test.
